GUYS:
Back in '06 at NASG in Pontiac, I paid $5 for an old Nimco (Nixon Model
Co.) Woodsheathed Box Car kit. This was a value-added purchase as the box also
contained a pair of Andrews sprung trucks and a pair of Archbar unsprung
trucks. The diagram that came with the kit shows the box car outfitted with the
Andrews trucks, but the Archbars would look pretty cool. What really blows my
mind about this kit is the "draw date" on the diagram: I was eight-years-old
when an L. Carlin drew the kit's pictures in March '50. The kit is really basic
with nice basswood pieces and staples for grab irons. I'll probably substitute
some NW drop grabs.

I haven't built any rolling stock for a long time as it's so easy to buy
SHS and AM cars. Probably the last car I built from a wooden kit came from Ye
Olde Huff 'n Puff. http://www.yeoldehuffnpuff.com/ I'm really having a great
time building this box car. Ye Olde Huff 'n Puff still offers basswood kits for
reefers and box cars. I would encourage you to explore what they have to offer
and buy and build one of their wooden kits. It's a lot of fun. Disclaimer: I
have no association of any kind with Ye Olde Huff 'n Puff.
