Dave,
  Most of the 3 rail convertions are of scale equipment manufactured for the 
3-rail crowd.  There was some really nice scale Lionel that converted well 
also.  I think many AF folks who drifted over to Hi-rail demanded more scale 
fidelity as well.  These folks provided a great service to the scale modelers.  
Could SHS and American survive without them?  I think not.

Hi Ed, Funny but coming from O scale I always look at flyer as
having a third rail and often am surprised when someone reminds me it
only has two( then I think what's the point?) From what I've seen
flyer is less usefull to an S scaler than three rail O is to an O
scaler? I've converted some pretty nice cars from three to two rail O
scale but don't see much in the flyer line worth converting.....dave
