Hi Peter,

Funny you should mention the pinking shears. In the latest RMC is an article
talking about using them. I had never thought about that but it looks like it
would work if I could find 1/8th teeth. Guess I'll have to take a look around.
Banta's laser cut wood stairs look good too but sometimes styrene would work
better.

Take care,

Bob,( in very wet )Boring

Hi Bob, I have tried a trick with "pinking shears " some years ago, cutting
through thin styrene or stiff card stock, might even work with micro plywood,
the trick is to find shears with 1/8" teeth size, they exist...although the
last time I looked I could not find any. This is a sewing item and I have
looked around in fabric sections of various stores. The 1/8 x 1/8 teeth are
usually set at 90 deg. to each other at a 45 deg bias. This is perfect as it
gives you a S scale riser of 8" and tread can be anything from 8" to 12" (cut
strip stock of any material). To make thicker risers just laminate several
"pinked" strips and clean up any roughness with fine sand paper or sharp exacto
blade.

Of course there is the MODERN technique of using a plotter with laser to cut
any variety of tread/riser proportions...any manufacturers out there intrested
in reasonably priced kits...could use for fire exscapes, industrial stairs,
switch towers, back of building porches etc., etc. material could be offered in
strips of some length, such as 12" or ?

Any way greetings from southern Oregon,

  Peter Loeb

Does anyone have a good way (read easy) to cut stair risers in wood or
styrene? I thought Evergreen used to have them pre-cut in S scale but
I can't seem to find them on the web site.

As always, your help is much appericated.
