All --
As editor of the NASG/NMRA S Scale SIG (Special Interest Group) newsletter, I
have some observations for all of you:
1. The quarterly SIG newsletter can be exactly what all of you are looking
for. It is done electronically, and it is also mailed out via USPS.
2. The NASG underwrites SIG costs over and above the $5 per year membership
dues.
3. You don't have to be a member of either the NASG or the NMRA to join
(although dues are $15 if you are not an NASG member).
4. The newsletter is presently only four pages long, although that size is
certainly not written in stone.
Some of you have suggested that all a magazine (or an e-zine) needs to have is
a digest of what passes through the S-scale e-list. Not necessarily so. I
used to have a section in the newsletter that did exactly that, from this and
the Sn3 e-list. I got complaints that people already saw that stuff on the
net, so please get it out of the newsletter.
We have had some problems getting the newsletter out on time. Although edited
and submitted on a timely basis, the 4Q07 issue (for example) has not yet been
received in yours truly's USPS mailbox, which probably means it hasn't been
mailed yet by the coordinator. NASG President Sam McCoy, whom I chatted with
at O/S West, says he is working the problem.
