Language evolves. What it was might not be what it is now or will
be soon. Some things by common usage become the standard way to say it
even if not the "correct" way. Over the years it has become normal
usage to say "scale" for 2 rail O and for smaller flanged S scale
models and to say "gauge" for 3 rail O and for hirail S trains. People
are comfortable with this usage so it works. AC Gilbert and JCLionel
are not around to enforce their usage anymore!....dave
