Hi all:
Re: "Micro model builders" loose and quick translation of U-tube video for all
of you
"....We are a group of micro model builders whose motto is:
small-smaller-smallest, German and (by accent) Swiss modelers we have been
active in micro models since the 90's. The vehicles shown on RR modules are
1:87 (HO) most electronics and running gear is scratch built using mostly brass
stock. Usually make up scale mechanical drawings to design and fabricate a
model. Turning drive shafts, axels and actuating arms for micro servos for
strearing, shifting, brakes and micro electronics for lights and light displays
and motor control. Tires are often home made in silicone (RTV?) molds using a
liquid latex to build up tires, especially important in off-road type vehicles.
It takes about 3 months of work to make a vehicle. Lots of new teritory to
explore with all types of micro vehicles (construction/boats/submarines etc.).
The construction equipment has added dificulty in that we want it to work like
the real thing (being able to plow/dig/lift etc.). The boats/subs should
function like the real thing in being able to manuver and move up & down and so
on. The real challenge was to find and get the motors to work. (Wonder how they
control the subs with radio control under water???) Some items like the very
acurate scale boats are in various scales (all very small) and have some of the
prototypical functions such as winches for towing or moveable periscopes
etc....."
WOW what a deal!
Commentary....there are some micro 1:64 scale RC cars etc. available..I have
one from Radio Shack. There are other brands. Have not checked
performance/speed/control on these. They have liitle obvious antennas. The
German/Swiss cars do not. And they seem to be operating at reasonable scale
like speeds and behave very much like real cars. Translation is very loose and
quick giving the sense of what is talked about in the U-Tube video by Dr. Peter
Loeb for the S community.
