Jerry,

I'm not exactly sure just what style cars you are looking for, but
here is an idea:

The Bachmann On30 passenger cars are close to being "scale" to S
standard gauge dimensions, at least in cross section.  It would be
theoretically possible to bash a couple of them together into a "full
length" car.  Of course it would be an open vestibule car, unless you
saw fit to scratch the closed-vestibule detail.  This is my hoped plan
to get a few 1880 vintage cars.
