Gary....
I am curious about this item in your listing: "Atlas RS-3"
Are we talking HO plastic or S brass here?
On my mighty NYC (note: All NYCs are "mighty"!), I also have two P2-b
electric locos which are made out of brass. Not commercially available, but
distinctly NYC to be sure. Lightning stripes prove it! Also, I have an
Omnicon 2-8-0 and 4-6-0 which are somewhat modified (doghouse removed,
auxiliary water tender added, etc.) which are lettered for the NYC. Not
true NYC for the serious rivet counter, but good enough for me. Call me
loose! Smaller steam locos are hard to find and I was desperate. Like Roy
Inman, I only count the LARGE rivets.
One advantage of modeling the mighty NYC out here on the west coast is that
none of those SP guys know enough about the NYC to question anything done in
the model arena. Except maybe Lee Johnson who used work for GE (before
retirement) and had NYC as a customer. I could probably paint a big boy NYC
and get away with it -- except for Arden Goehring who would spill the beans.
But the question posed by that SPF named "Lane" was how much does all this
stuff weigh? Need to know the tonnage. Nothing else counts. Gary, you
need to march all your stuff into the bathroom, put it on the scale, add it
all up, and then challenge Lane to do the same. Y'know, Lane cheats! Yes,
he actually adds more details to brass imports. And, he uses very heavy
solder (contains lead) to attach them. Like any pure PRR guy, he is aiming
for gross tonnage. So his 2-8-5 might weigh more than our loco of the same
wheel arrangment. You do have a 2-8-5 don't you?
Since our empires are very similar, you could just figure my tonnage is
about the same as yours. Egads, this is darn near a 40-year accumulation.
You trying to make me feel old or something? Just because my hair is
near-white does not mean I am old. Mature, perhaps. But not old!
While you are weighing brass, I will be at Starbucks with my pretty wife
sipping a hot toddy. I allow myself one per month in these times of
economic stress.
Cheers...Ed L.
