An independent contractor has been installing new track in the Humongous
Company complex for storing cars. This will allow all cars for cornstarch and
corn syrup loading to be stalled on site, thus eliminating demurrage fees for
storing them on the Powdertown house and team tracks.
The downside is that the Humongous switch job will have to handle the storage
cars every time it switches the plant, but lining them up in proper sequence,
pulling loads and spotting empties should be a relatively simple task.
I'll post photos when the new trackage is installed.
This will make room for a piggyback unloading ramp on the Powdertown team
track, and leave the house track clear for other purposes.
In other news, ballasting and surfacing operations continue in Mooar Yard. It's
been a long haul, but the end is in sight. Due to the clutter of construction
and maintenance-of-way equipment, Mooar has been virtually shut down for the
past two weeks. Lots of techniques and suggestions in this area coming later
for those contemplating similar activities on their trackage.
More later -
