Ken, Glad to see you guys are still making progress of some sort. Too
often when you gear up for a event like you put on, exhaustion sets in
afterward--or maybe your just a hardier bunch living on the Great Plains!

Houston was one of the first cities the Worlds Great Hobby 'show and
dance' visited several years ago. They have avoided us since for some
reason. We displayed our modules at that time and we had a couple of
vendors that had a fair amount of S to sell making it a pretty large and
decent show. I disliked the idea of working for 2+ days to do all the
work to put on a successful show only to be delivered a note thanking us
for our help. I don't know if the show was succesful financially or not
(not to mention the effects of name recognition and future sales) but
everybody either had a good time seeing and buying or reeping profits
except us. The venue itself certainly wasn't the local VFW Hall cost
wise, the 18 wheelers filled with displays weren't delivered by
volunteers, and the folks from Walthers, Digitrax, Kalmbach and Overland
did it with the idea of financial rewards.

This year a local non-profit railroad museum will be sponsosring a
similar show with the hope of it being financially successful for the
group and they plan on providing a token payment to groups like ours for
our fixed costs. Anyway it's happening the 16 & 17th of October and
it's called the Big Texas Train Show (there on line by that name). So
if your travels bring you through Texas around that time, the George R
Brown convention center in downtown Houston will be the happening place.

The Houston S Gaugers will setup our bigget layout ever with several new
modules including a double track wye module that was started by Jack
Troxell and will be finsihed by Peter Vanvliet. Don Hand also promises
us two new sections.
