The easiest way to tell is to mark the motor shaft or flywheel and mark a
wheel then count the turns of motor needed to make the wheel turn one
revolution. My GP9 and GP35 both run great at slow speed so I've never bother
to count them but a good slow speed loco typically will have about 12-15 to one
gearing....dave
