Subject: {S-Scale List} O'Brien Structure Completed

Good Evening All,

I am happy to report that my "O'Brien Steel Construction Co." structure
is finished. This is my model using the Showcase Miniatures "Sunkist
Shed" structure kit. I just uploaded the last page that shows some of
the exterior details I added over the weekend. The structure itself is
finished, however, the area around the structure will need more work
over time. Tonight I started working on a scale 6-foot chain link fence
made out of wedding veil. I also plan to have an industrial gate over
the track leading to the structure. I have a small crane kit that I want
to build and install near the structure. It is my understanding that the
prototype company made steel bridge parts, so I may scratchbuild some
parts and place them outside the structure to its left, where I
purposely left an open area.

As is my habit, I have fully documented the construction of this
structure. The starting page for the structure is as follows:

http://pmrr.org/Structures/OBrienSteelConst/index.htm

>From there you can click on any of the topics of interest, or just
start with the first one. The bottom of each page has a link to the next
page, so you don't have to keep going back to the intro page.

Several weeks ago I asked the group about platform distances from the
track. It was this structure that I was working on. I finally decided to
use the 1948 PRR standard of 7 feet from track center. Tonight I had a
mini operating session and all the equipment easily cleared the platform.

This was a nice kit to work on. The structure itself was fairly easy to
construct. I spent more time doing the painting, lighting, and detailing
than the actual building of the structure itself.

The other (personal) significance of completing this project is, that
this completes my "kit building" phase of the layout. From now on my
focus is going to be scratchbuilding. As I mentioned before, I will soon
acquire the materials to start scratchbuilding my first PRR H21a hopper
car. I am looking forward to that one.

Enjoy,
 - Peter.
