The several listings of multiple Russ Downs cars on ebay recently causes me to
wonder about four or five relettered AM cars
I bought from the Seeburger estate. They are obviously done from CDS
transfers, and very neatly so, especially the end
lettering (which I know from experience is the hardest part). I hadn't
particularly connected them with Russ Downs, although
the owner of Hoquat (Jeff Winslow?) mentioned that he had a box for a VTR
boxcar he believed done by Russ, and I had bought
a relettered VTR PRS 50' among the items in the estates he was handling. The
lettering on the VTR was not so well-done as
on the cars from Don Seeburger, but perhaps as Russ apparently had health
problems toward the end, that may have been the
reason.
Can someone more knowledgeable about S scale than I confirm my conjecture?
