I just finished working on some flat cars. The PRR T&HS published a book on flat cars about a year ago. Even if you do not have much interest in the PRR - the photos of the cars, many of which are loaded are endless food for thought. You can still get it new. http://www.prrths.com/estore/index.html
A similar book on gondolas is eminent. The Spring 1985 issue of the PRR T&HS Keystone is pretty much all about early containerization. If you watched eBay it probably would not take more than a month or 2 until this issue gets listed.
