All,

I am trying to shoehorn a new track in a tight area between my mainlines,
engine house tracks and the engine house. Adding to the difficulty is a
joint between modules that is the perfect spot for this new turnout, but of
course I have to go to one side on the other of it. There are about 3
possibilities of how and where to put the new turnout.

98% of me making my new layout is to conform to my #1 rule of layout design:
Every loco owned will be able to run trouble free on every inch of track on
the layout. I know I will not be switching an industrial area with a J1, but
it could be done. Larry Morton sent me a chart a while back that gave the
equivalent radius for the divert route on S turnouts. I cannot find the
chart now, but I think a #5 was a surprising 60"+.

Cutting to the chase and meat of the post. Has anyone run a PRR J1 and the
B&O EM1 through a #5 turnout frequently **without trouble**? This will make
some possibilities remain an option if a #5 can be used. The new turnout
will be a busy part of my freight bypass. It has to work well. Ironically
the EM1 ran well on tighter radius than my M1.

Thank You,
Bill Lane
