Mine's freelanced and was on my old layout. I didn't build a model of the Chance plant or its predecessor. I basically used a Lehigh Valley Models breaker kit (all three kits), but I essentially built a new larger unloading shed. Frank Titman had designed the unloading shed for the small mine cars, but I built mine large enough to handle two tracks with narrow gauge hopper cars. The enclosed conveyor from the unloading shed to the breaker proper was essentially the stock kit. It also works for my new space and is smaller than a scale model of the plant at Mt. Union. There should be an article about it in an old Dispatch. Right now it needs some repair work from being moved twice and I want to redo some of the track under it, since, in the new arrangement, all the tracks under the breaker part will be dual gauge. More fun. The FEBT store should have plans for the Chance coal plant.
I built a BTS model for the modeled coal mine. I just don't have the track in place to connect the two. Staging will simulate additional mines. If you're contemporary, you could model some well-rusted hoppers with trees growing up through them, while your vintage wooden passenger cars are pristine. (I like wooden cars.) In your world, you can have the EBT restored to Mt. Union. Have fun with your dual gauge trackwork. Some of the old pictures show dual gauge stub switches in use, so I'm planning in building a building a few of those. To date, I've only built the point ones. Union Dave, I'd like to see pics of your coal washing plant. I might try a downsized version some day. I've taken advantage of my living so close to the EBT and have made many trips to get photos. Since my standard gauge is contemporary, I decided to model the EBT as a present day tourist railroad. When I do operations, it will be set on a "Fall Spectacular" day, which will bring out the M-1, and allow for some mixed freight runs, etc. Roy ------------------------------------ Yahoo!
