I never said or did any such thing.  I love the slack action of the 802/808.  
There are very few things I like better than starting a long freight and 
watching (and listening to) the slack being taken up car by car as the loco 
moves out.

I do not, however, like the Kadee 802/808 centering spring.  It is too stiff, 
therefore making cabeese bob forward and back as the train proceeds.  I use 
extra knuckle springs for centering springs.  Kadee has admitted in writing 
that their centering spring may be too stiff, but so far they've done nothing 
about it.

This is probably the fourth year in a row in which I have posted this 
solution.  But hey, I realize that everyone's post looks just as authoritative 
as everyone else's, so I get it...

I know that Dick Karnes, Wally Collins, and many other S Scalers place a
small tube inside the spring to stop the "slack action" with the Kadee
couplers. It was explained to me, but I haven't tried that idea to date.
