I posted pictures of the coupler jig use to assemble Kadee couplers. Go to
the photo section under "Trucks by Barry Pazan" They are the last 4 pictures
posted. The first photo shows the jig. I made mine out of steel as I have a
milling machine and like to use it. You could make one out of wood or styrene.
I drilled 2 holes for studs to hold the coupler box. The one stud you see is a
broken tap. Oh well, it works fine with one stud. The 2nd photo shows the jig
with the coupler box on it. The box is held firmly in place. Note that I milled
a little off of the top of the jig. This is so the copuler box lays flat. The
next two pictures show the coupler in place ready for the spring or what ever
you want to put in. This jig allows me to work with both hands when putting the
spring in. The jig can be clamped to my bench, however it in heavy enough that
I don't clamp it. When putting the spring in, make sure that the spring is
aganist the copuler, not bent down on the copuler box. The spring always wants
to settle on the bottom of the box. If it does, and you take the tool out, the
spring will become air born.
A question on Floquil paint. I used to be able to buy 1 pint cans of
thinner. Now, all they sell is one ounce bottles for about $5.00. This is to
expensive. Some one mentioned a few days ago they used to use lacquer thinner a
few years ago. Can lacquer thinner be used on the floquil paint that is made
today?
