My view is that contests have the effect of "raising the bar" for modeling.
Which is a good thing. Having said that, I may never enter a model contest, as
my efforts to date are not of suficient quality!

Like Bill, I do really enjoy the atmosphere of RPM events.

Cheers,

Subject: {S-Scale List} points abut recent posts

Since some of this was possibly directed at me because of my recent posts my
responses follow…

I never said I boycott NMRA events. I just will not join them as an
organization. Further I was not urging anyone to do the same. I have attended
most of the joint or concurrent NMRA/NASG conventions in the past 24 years.

Dick mentioned an email was BLOCKED from this list. That is absolutely not
true. No posts have been blocked. No one that has posted in the past 3+ days is
on moderation either.

In reply to Tom’s comment about S models at NMRA conventions….. I have come to
the point that I feel model railroad “contests” (NMRA – NASG etc) are passé. I
don’t have the need to get justification or especially a ribbon for 1 of my
models. I know what I did to it and made it for me. You can look at it and we
can talk about what was done. My models are better than some - not as good as
others. Good enough…. Why do I need a contest?

Having been to a few local RPM meets I prefer the show n tell atmosphere
**much** better. There is a room full of amazing models to look at. Given that
no NMRA convention is in close driving distance for me for the known future
there is NO chance I will take 1 of my models on a plane for some contest. If I
were to bring a model it would be for display only. I have urged the PRR T&HS
to drop the contest aspect in favor of a RPM style model room.

Thank You,
Bill Lane
