and quoth Jim Kindraka Des Plaines Hobby made (and still makes) 48' and 53' containers. The last time I was in the store thay also had 20' bulk liquid container kits. I'm not sure if DPH ever made 40' containers... > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Jim's statement is accurate, and those are the probably the best for a basic fleet of S scale containers. The 20 & 40 ft diecast containers are dimensionally correct and they match the DPH containers. You will recall that we established that ocean and domestic containers may often be seen on the same car. The kits that DPH sold were produced originally by the late Mr Larry Jackman, dba S Scale America. I believe he had kits for 40, 45 and 48 foot containers. In those details not essential for interchange, they were different from the die-cast containers, ie smooth rather than corrugated sides. Unfortunately, they were also different in length - they came out a little too short. You couldn't stact an S Scale America container and a correct length container together, the lenght discrepancy was too great. But if you kept the SSA containers with themselves, no one would notice that they were slightly short. Incidentally, the original question here can be answered with a ruler. "Forty foot" is an outside length in ISO containers. Tom Hawley -- Lansing Mich
