For those of you interested in the Kaslo Budd saga, here is an abbreviated
history. Forgetting all the previous months of talk and getting enough people
to commit, on March 21, 2005, John Whitmore announced that the New England
States Budd cars are a go. If you want a good laugh, (or in the case of those
of you who put up deposits maybe a good cry) read message number 32973 from
March 21, 2005.
Scroll forward to August 16, 2007 message number 43768 where J. Whitmore
says he is cutting his losses with Jeff Briggs and says "I will be engaging
Mark Gasson at Mark 4 Design in New Zealand to work on the project".
Fast forward to March 24, 2009 message no. 55371 where I posted a reply
from Kaslo where J. Whitmore states "After much deliberation Mark and I felt
that he was not the best equipped to build the S Scale Budd Car masters using
Rapid Prototyping techniques. I found another master builder willing to take on
the job and forwarded him all of my Budd Car research material in December of
2008. At the time he said that he other projects on his plate and wouldn't be
able to get to mine quite yet. So we are in a period of waiting (again) until
his slate gets cleared then we will begin production on the first car which
should be the 56 Seat Coach".
I then received this reply on June 24, 2010. "Right now we are still
forging ahead with the 'new' master builder. He is at a stage where I am hoping
to have test blanks with the next 6 weeks. While things have been progressing
slowly I am definitely not calling this project dead. Updates are hard to come
by as there really hasn't been much to report on but I am always happy to
answer people's e-mails if they have a direct question such as yours".
Here is last years reply to an email from me on June 27, 2011. "we're
still plugging along - I have seen some sample cuttings from the master builder
and they look really good. Getting the fluting right has been really tricky.
I'll follow up with him today and see if he's made any further progress".
I was actually waiting to post this on March 21,2012 when it will be SEVEN
YEARS since this project was a "GO". Take a look at all of the items that Jim
King from Smoky Mountain has delivered in this time. One other note, Kaslo
doesn't seem to have a problem delivering HO items to people. Jim Duncan
