   They swivel the pilots on the trucks because they would  have to cut out a 
huge hole for them to swing if body mounted. Three rail O models use the same 
method. It's a compromise that allows larger scale trains to run on tighter 
curves. The alternative is to not sell as many large scale trains. Remember 
guys buying toy trains increase the chances of more useful things being made in 
S scale. Buildings, vehicles,figures, and details of all kinds are a benefit of 
more modelers in the scale no matter what radius curves they run....DaveBranum
