TMCC Lionel locos will run on a plain AC power supply. You could find one cheap on Ebay and re-sell it when you are done with it. I'm not sure how many of the features of TMCC don't work when not using the command control but the loco should have basic sound when running on straight power. You could check Lionel's website to find out exactly what it could do on plain power. For those considering one of these locos I'll add that TMCC and railsounds is a great system, I had an Atlas O switcher with 2 rail TMCC and sound and it was a very nice running loco. If someone only wanted one control system and liked the U33 then TMCC would be the way to go.....DaveBranum
