Bob,

Yes, I get that magazine... and yes, I noticed.  I t was, in fact, the very
first thing I noticed.  A nd afterwards, I looked to see if I could tell how
wide the wheels on it were .  But I thought it was an N scale model at first
because of the coupler.

But contrary to your surmising, the #5 couplers on that model do not "pass for
scale" in HO at all.  The proof of that is that Kadee offers a smaller "scale"
coupler... one that is very widelt used amongst scale modelers... at least
those who don't use the Sergent couplers instead.

And for the record... HO scale has all but, if not completely  done away with
the 'horn hook' coupler that is, as far as I'm concerned, the equivalent of the
grossly oversized S stuff (and AF couplers)  I assume you were referring to.
So at least there is some sign of improvement  in this area of HO.

Subject: {S-Scale List} Walther's sale catalog

Does anybody else get those Walther's sale catalogs in the mail on a regular
basis? Those of you who do, did you notice the honkin' big Hi-rail-size Kadee
style coupler on the end of the HO SD-9 on the cover that passes for "scale" in
the little scales?

Makes S scale AF and Hirail couplers look good in comparison. Fellow modelers
of S, Unite! We have nothing to apologize for!
