Hi all, Repairing an Older PBL 3 truck shay gear box. Details in the photo section.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/S-Scale/photos/album/2050956759/pic/list This just happens to be standard gauge shay, dont know if the narrow gauge shay would have the same gear box. Fix was easy, having Dave from NWSL help. After replacing the older nylon gears that had split with Delrin gears, which was an easy replacement. There were some other adjustments that needed to be made. The wheels also shorted out on the side frames and was fixed by adding a thin fiber washer between the wheel and frame. The wheel sets were out of gauge and needed to be moved out about 1/32'(using the NWSL wheel puller). After getting all the adjustments, the shay runs like a Swiss watch, quite and smooth. I really dont know if the person that painted this shay (paint was on the inside of the wheels and had to be removed to get a smooth electrical connection) was responsible for any of the above abnormalities or not. Please Call or email me if you have any questions about fixing this fix. Jerry Wilson 720-353-8608 steamer461 @ yahoo.com ------------------------------------ Yahoo!
