I have NCE decoders on my A M E8 set. BUT. I also have a Tsunami in my B&O EM-1 and PRR J1 - BIG engines with very big motors. I have run my EM-1 until it slipped with an all brass freight train of about 50 cars. The Tsunami never wavered once. Your E8 will be fine. FWIW Soundtraxx claims the Tsunami is conservatively rated at 1 amp. I do believe it.
