I recommend you not convert your layout to this kind of an operating  
layout.  It would simply require too much work removing all that detailed  
scenery and marking all that rolling stock with felt pens.  Besides, it  would 
be 
hard to find one who was not happy with the operations capabilities of  your 
layout.  
 
So glad I got to see your layout last summer.

Some of the super-serious scale modelers around here like to  remark that 
the operations guys would be happy using 2"x4" wood blocks with  trucks and 
couplers and a car number (felt tip pen). The more sidings the  better and 
there is no need for a mainline. Scenery, of course, is totally  unnecessary.
