I have had experience with Marcway turnouts.  They were made available in
various gauges - O,S,HO etc. and in various rail codes.  I had a close friend
(now deceased) several years ago who was an O scale modeler of English railways
in the 1930's.  He imported the Marcway turnouts for resale to other O scale
modelers.  The turnouts were built with the rail soldered to pc board ties.
The point rails were continuous to the frog.  I had to repair a couple of
turnouts that were damaged in shipment.  These were code 148 O scale three way
turnouts.  I remember that the point rails were very stiff.  My friend told me
that Marcway subcontracted the assembly work on the turnouts to retired people
to supplement their income.  I doubt that the tortoise type slow motion switch
machines would throw the points on these turnouts.
