Many moons ago, I visited the national RR museum of France and saw a 5-way
track switch. Never saw so many frogs and guard rails all compactly arranged
and looking so complicated. It was so difficult to follow the tracks from the
beginning out to the other end that the museum staff painted the rails in
various colors. The blue paint was one route, the yellow another route and so
forth. By following the colors one could figure it all out.
If Dick Karnes ever wanted to build some trackwork that would win the gold,
this would be the prototype to replicate.
