Dave, Are you sure it is "wood alcohol" and not that stuff they make back in the woods where Billy Wade lives? That stuff is known to remove chrome from steel. Bill

The brake fluid reduces certain ABS plastics to a brittle, crumbly mess. It is safer to use commercial model strippers or 91% alcohol.
