The transition was a pretty drawn out affair. Roller bearing trucks first
showed up in numbers in the mid 50's New cars built after 1966 had to have
roller bearing trucks. Most friction bearing trucks were gone by the early 80's
but a few soldiered on for years longer. Friction bearing trucks were banned
on Haz-Mat cars in 1991 and banned on all cars in 1994. If your layout falls
between roughly 1955 and 1990 you will have varying proportions of friction
bearing versus roller bearing with more equal balance in the late 60's and
early 70's ...DaveBranum
