What it tells me is that the fellow who wrote the subject is not well informed.
The motor itself is DC. The engine runs on AC or TMCC or DCC. Apparently it
also runs on DC (now) according to Rich -- but this recent descovery applies
only to FUTURE Lionel products. Products already manfuactured and now
available for sale do not have the DC capability. Buyer beware of loose
comments on the internet!
The secret to all this is a magical black box that connects between the track
and the motor. Think of it as a decoder in disguise. This magic box detects
the track power, interprets it and then the loco acts in accordnace with what
is interpreted. If it detects DCC, then the loco works on DCC. If it detects
AC, then the loco runs on AC. And so forth. As long as the magic box is
working correctly, the same loco and run on any of the three (now) or four
(future) power sources.
Even without the magic black box, any Flyonel loco can be made to run on DC if
the electronic innards are stripped out. Remove the TMCC circuitry and connect
the motor to the track and turn on your MRC power pack and watch it move. It
works!!
