That is a wonderful idea, Danny. I hope you have many hours and years of fun
ahead of you with your boys and their trains.

Subject: {S-Scale List} Entry Level Train Sets

          Hello "S" list,
It is interesting that John snapped photos of some of the trains that
I have recently purchased for my sons. I have a 4 year old and a 2 year old
and they have had a blast playing with them! The problem (and the "S" content)
is that the track that comes with them is really bad. A similar problem to
most of the entry level sets of the 70's and 80's that Bob Werre spoke of. The
kids are playing with the trains now on the floor with no track. This has lead
me down a new path to keep trains (on tracks) in front of them. I have decided
to acquire and permanently attach S helper track to a 5'X8' board and get them
some AF trains to play with until they are old enough for some scale equipment.
I know I could use AF track, but I may want to play on the layout with some
scale equipment during their nap time! While it is very good to see trains
back in stores, the stuff on the shelves at the big box and toy stores just
doesn't cut it for me. The quality is traded for the more affordable price
point. I am glad there is a resurgence though!
Growing a couple of future S scalers (I hope!),
