I use ink erasers for cleaning track and wheels. These are the erasers that are
half pencil eraser (white or pink) and half ink eraser (grey). The ink eraser
has a fine abrasive that seems a lot less aggressive than a Bright Boy but
takes off the black buildup that occurs on rails. I start cleaning wheels with
a Q-tip and mineral spirits to remove any softer buildup and then follow with
the ink eraser. I think this is less likely to damage/scratch wheels. These
erasers are not carried by the big box stationery stores (Staples/Office Max),
but I found them at an art supply store.
