Good morning: I know this question relates to an American Flyer motor but I look for DCC experts on this list; not S-Trains.
Scenario: Orange goes the the field coil. Output of the field coil goes AC on to the bridge rectifier. Gray goes to the other AC on the bridge rectifier. DC is across the armature. (This wiring is contrary to the normal rewiring where the field coil is on DC. Most people do this because the armature is switched by the reverse unit; not the field. But doing this tries to make the field coil a permanent magnet when the steel in field coil should not be magnitized.) I am surprised at how well AC Gilbert motor responds at slow speed at the super-sonic pulsing of the DCC decoder. My question is: should I put a 0.1 mfd disk capacitor across the brushes? I do when I convert to DC. Thorin Marty Wauwatosa, WI
