Actually, the weekend started in the middle of last week, when I discovered
whySW-1 #22 was stubbing its toe on the back elevator/powerhouse switch.
Resolving it was a simple matter of turning one of the universal joint balls
90-degrees. The engine is a little light in the front end, anyway, making it
vulnerable to derailing problems as previously described, but having those
u-joint balls at 90-degrres to each other seems to cure the problem.
Terminal District has been the assigned switch engine, by virtue of its steam
generator, but it has developed a mysterious lope that can be frustrating.
Therefore, RS-2 #34 has been assigned to yard duty at TD and #30 has been lined
up to go to Mooar Yard, so the roundhouse foreman there can look it over and
find the problem. He's the one who seems to have the know-how to keep these old
Alcos running.
In the meantime, I sat around TD and watched #34 go about switching out cars
and making up the train for Mooar, after which it went to the pit and the day
was done.
