Bill, Yes, it is sad. In Europe they seem to be able to keep centuries old
structures yet in our country too many times demolition is the answer and on
buildings far newer than those in Europe.
There are no plans to tear this magnificent structure down though, there are
ongoing restorations. The REA portion might succumb to the scrapper's ball as
that is pretty far gone and serves no purpose other than pigeon roosts. The
concourse inside is shaping up, but I can't speak for the tower portion as that
is not open for the public.
Hard to believe in today's world but Buffalo, NY was once second only to
Chicago for rail activity, being a major East-West route. Twenty Four different
railroads once served here.
