Its called "W" because that is the shape of the corner post (the structural 
member) behind the end sheet. While the shape of the end is visible, the shape 
of the post is more important to the design of the car.

Thanks for the photos. That explains a lot. I don’t know how the rounded corner 
came to be called “W” but so be it.
 
I think I have painted both of these cars in O Scale at 1 time. When I went to 
save them I already had them.
