It's good to hear that Jim DeWitt is still active. I remember visiting
his layout at the last two Mich conventions--so with a bit of luck
perhaps a third!
Locally, we also had a party on Saturday. It was the 10th anniversary
of Master Modeler Gill Freitag's feature and cover in MR. Gill had been
featured in most of the modeling magazines over the years but MR had
never done a complete feature with cover. I was happy to make that happen.
Since Gil is widely known in operating circles, live steam, NMRA
activities plus his famous layout, folks from all over Texas and
Louisiana stopped by to celebrate with him. Gil had the unfortunate
event of a major stroke a few years back which has hampered his
railroading activities somewhat but he's as active as he can be.

We had a nice club meeting today at the Home of Joel (aka Jim) DeWitt,
father of Don & Dale. Joel's 95th birthday was a few days ago, so we
honored him with a little celebration and a cake brought by Gaylord Gill.
We also moved a step closer to officially bidding for the 2016 NASG
convention. We're not yet at the point where we make the bid, but
it's looking very probable.
Dan Navarre, River Raisin Models, mentioned that Southern Pacific
modellers tend to be good customers. This tied right in with the
latest issue of RMC, which I had brought along, with its cover and
feature article on Bob Hogan's SP layout.
