Actually the photo Bill posted is even more interesting. It is a copy of an EMD publicity photo taken in 1955 following installation of EMD 567-series prime movers in the NYC units. The NYC was not satisfied with the Baldwin's performance on several levels; although it can be argued the NYC did not employ them in road service the way Baldwin intended.
The NYC took delivery in 1947/48 from Baldwin of 4 A and 2 B unit DR 6-4-1500's. Baldwin built them with 6-wheel Commonwealth 13' 3" wheelbase trucks for dual service. The NYC used them in passenger service only and the Commonwealth trucks proved inadequate. Within a year the railroad sent them back to Baldwin and the trucks were replaced with the drop-equalized 15' 6" A-1-A trucks in the photo Bill posted. The longer wheel base necessitated a reduced size fuel tank and pilot modifications. They are not Alco PA trucks but a Baldwin style built for the DR 6-4-2000's Pennsy's BP-20 "Passenger Sharks". As I said, the units were re-engined by EMD in 1955 and all six had been removed from NYC's roster and scrapped by early 1962. Pieter, I'm not a big fan of Wiki-anything as a definitive research tool. In the arcane world of builder locomotive design designations, only the NYC and SAL were buyers of the DR 6-4-1500 Baldwin model.
