I just destroyed my most recent layout due to retirement and a move. I only had an area 9'x17' for the layout. While it was rather small I managed to build a very nice S scale layout in the room followed by an even nicer HO layout. The configuration of the room and doors forced me to use a duck under to enter the room. It was only 18" wide on the S layout and 12" on the HO version. My experience with them taught me one important thing for the next layout.............THERE WILL BE NO DUCK UNDERS!!!!!!! After more than 20 years of operating those layouts I still would periodically bang my head or drag my back when traversing the Gate To Hell as my friends called it. It also hampered entering the room with supplies, lumber and most anything one would carry. I know others have them and don't seem to mind them but you might think about visitors and operators.
