Were you perhaps questioning why the starting bid was $99 with a
reserve of $100? This does seem like a strange thing to do, since
setting a low starting bid usually encourages more people to get
involved with the lower bids, while the reserve protects the seller
from having to sell it at a low price. On the other hand, if the seller
didn't want to risk having to pay the reserve fee if the reserve wasn't
met, he should have just foregone the reserve and set the starting bid
at $100. In this case he has essentially used the reserve to protect
himself from having to sell it for only $99.
