Not really. The risks are acutally pretty much the same. A lot of smaller items would go un-noticed longer than a few large items. Cell phones were one of the biggest rip off items noted in the article. There relatively small and inexpensive and in line with a nice S gauge tank car. The comparison to an auto repair shop is not relative nor representative. You canot see the person selling face to face in the auction, but you can see the service advisor and what the shop looks like, and even the area, and the workers. The service shop is very easy to bring a law suit against, you have a place to go, and a name to work with, a liscenced entity. You do not have any of that on the net as its very "anonymous". The anonymous nature of the internet actually breeds more of the deception than the regular retail world. I agree 100% with the using your head theory, and try my best to practice same. Unfortnately, there are far too many who do not subscribe to the theory or have a grasp if it, this is just fodder for the crooks.
