Greetings:
I am rewheeling my steeplecabs. The mechanisms are Athearn. The
wheels and axles are ACE. The Athearn axles fit tightly into the Athearn
gears. But the ACE axles are a tiny bit smaller. Does anyone have any
suggestions on how to make the ACE axles a tiny bit larger?
There are two obvious answers, neither of which I can use:
1. Glue the gear to the axle. This would remove the ability to regauge
the wheels Also the gear is Delrin and the axle is steel.
2. Use a lathe and knurl this section of the axles. I can't as I only
have a Dremel and hand tools. Lots of hand tools.
I am thinking that a thin, thin layer of crazy glue on the axles might
increase the size enough. I tried epoxy and it didn't have enough 'bite'
and promptly popped off. I would prefer a mechanical method to increase the
axle size here.
