Many hotels reserve space for different booking clients, such as Travelocity. They know that these services must have available space in order to operate without constantly checking back with the hotel. So here's how it works.
Travelocity is guaranteed say, 15 rooms at the Red Roof. As they book them, they check off each one until they reach 15. Then Travelocity is sold out of Red Roof rooms. But even before they sold out, the hotel considers those rooms as gone, not in their inventory. Only at the last minute, day of event, does Travelocity "give back" the unsold rooms to the hotel for last minute sign ups. This same system is why you can't book a sold out flight or a long sold out concert, but a travel agent or ticket broker can get you in. Stop being concerned. You have your room.
