Ted: Klez does not work the way you think it does. The e-mails you are getting are probably coming from someone who knows someone who is on the list. The list member himself may not have a virus. The worst spreaders of the contagion are people who forward jokes or sad stories. Klez hitches rides on the convoluted address strings generated there.
The weakness in Outlook Express is that it adds to your address book anyone to whom you send a reply using the "Reply" button. Otherwise, OE is a great program. You can shut that feature off. I use OE and I have it strip all attachments while they are still on the server and then ID them for me. That is also an option. There is a Klez sensing tool available through PC World.com. It is free and will find and remove Klez from your computer in about ten minutes. I have used it and my box came up clean.
