Can anyone tell me if the American Flyer 3/16" O gauge train cars are
the same physical size as the S gauge ones? I know the trucks would
need to be changed out to run on Flyer S track.

Roger,
As others have said, yes they are. The best of the 3/16" O gauge cars,
I think, are the diecast ones. The box car, stock car, tank car,
hopper, crane and heavyweight passenger cars are basically the same
cars carried over to S gauge. The caboose, based on either a PRR or
NH prototype, and the gondola, loosely based on the USRA gondola, are
totally different from any car Gilbert offered in S gauge.
