HI all,
Well, I'm not here as much because I'm working now--and I've got a
backlog of repairs in the shop and Christmas is coming!
Quality varies, although I think the AF parts are much better than most
Model A and Model T Ford repro parts (Don't get me going on those)! For
instance, there are at least two suppliers of reverse unit fingers. One
supplier's fingers are too long, but can be easily doctored to fit. The
other one uses a slightly thicker phosphor bronze material, which I think is
a very good thing, but the edges are sometimes sharp (dull punch dies?), so
they both need "doctoring" to fit (maybe this is why I call myself "The
Train Doctor," I'm always "doctoring" parts). There is also a variation in
knuckle couplers. That there is enough demand for more than one person to
make this amazes me. The coupler bodies do now follow ACG's much better: I
can remember back in the late '70s the bodies had sharp edges and repros
were easy to spot, but they worked well.As to who carries who's parts, I
dunno! (was that a spotted owl going by?? Who? Who?Who? -- AH, nope, just
Daffy Duck, Woo! Woo! Woo!)
Some parts are getting much better too, plus some new ones, like Neil's
pullmor wheels. I think we're pretty lucky in the parts area so far.
