Replacing the coil and wick in a SIT unit is actually easier than doing a boiler unit. There is more room to work inside the unit. Coil and wick are the same. Check out the original wick when you remove it. It is likely to be made of horse hair.
On the unit with no continuity in the coil, try resoldering the coil connections before replacing it. There is just a chance that you have a cold solder joint at one terminal, not a broken coil.
