Dear Tom:
That is sad. I went past your table pretty fast and I had intended
to return. Later I noticed the time was 9:45 and my bedtime is 9:00 PM.
When I left I was punchy because of the late hour. I remember that I hadn't
revisited your table when I was well on the way back to Milwaukee.
'S'igh.
Maybe in 2003 at either the Fall S-Fest or the NASG convention.
One final comment on the building. The photo NASG is circulating is a model
that has been 'improved' by the builder in a nice, scenic setting. I don't
have the picture here in California (where I am right now) but I understand
the photo shows an extra door, an air conditioner, and other detail items
that are NOT in the kit. Bill Wade of BTS told me he is thinking of a
detail kit for the model. But without seeing the 'unimproved' model -- from
all sides -- it is a pig in a poke. I'll probably buy one just to support
the NASG.
One final comment on the NASG table. Personally I expect a CASG member
could have been found to man the table. There were a large number of these
gents in their vests that night. Plus, both the American Model's display
and S-Helper were being run by CASG members. (I made all of my S-Helper
purchases from a CASG gentleman.)
On a lighter note, the fountain outside the room had two large circles. The
lower circle had a loop of the Disney Monorail track and, of course, the
monorail. The upper circle had the Ertl train running on Ertl track.
(Loco, flat car, and caboose. The box car was absent.) That battery
powered GP-35 was quite at home with the water splashing and flowing over
its track then down the fountain. Both of these battery powered trains were
fun to watch. And it was the first time I had gotten to see the Monorail.
Whoever did this: Thanks. I enjoyed them.
Thorin

Mr T Marty said (among other things)
. Saddest was the NASG table
as this was one of the reasons I drove a total of six and a half hours to
get there and back! . . . . . . . . .. CASG members told me John Foley
was responsible for the tables. I wanted to examine the NASG modern
building before
purchasing one (or several). I also wanted to purchase a second standards
gauge. I hate dealing with the mail and I hate paying shipping.

To which I reply
If it will help the organization and the membership, I will buy 10 of those
building kits, at the two-for retail price (NASG pay shipping), and I will
retail them I already have the standards gauges (track & wheel gauges) in
my stock, and had Mr Marty approached the Michigan Models tables and asked,
he could have bought one.
